Puppy and Kitten Care

Puppies and kittens need lots of care in the first several months of life in order to grow and develop properly. They should see their veterinarian at six to eight weeks old for a complete health check and parasite screen. Many animals are born with roundworms or other intestinal parasites that can make them sick and inhibit their growth. Our priority is to treat these issues, begin your pet’s booster shots and prepare them for a healthy life.

For your puppy or kitten’s first appointment, bring any paperwork you obtained from the breeder or shelter, and a fresh fecal sample. Also, be sure to have questions ready so we can address them promptly and provide you with appropriate information.

Puppy and Kitten Kits

Every puppy and kitten owner will receive a take-home puppy or kitten kit. These kits include information on a number of topics:

  • Tips for socializing your pet

Senior Cat and Dog Care

Dogs are considered seniors by age seven, whereas cats become seniors between eight and 10 years old. All pets age differently, but they can all experience similar problems due to the effects of aging. This can include diabetes, arthritis, incontinence, heart failure, kidney failure, and thyroid issues. Consistent health checkups and discussions with your veterinarian can minimize these effects, but it’s important to anticipate them nonetheless.

Since our pets age so quickly, annual exams and blood work are necessary to screen for disease. Furthermore, senior pets are prone to illness and should visit their veterinarian semiannually. Annual blood work and X-rays are also essential for detecting and treating problems quickly.

In addition to maintaining your pet’s health, keeping them comfortable is also important. Painful joints can not only limit your pet’s mobility but shorten their life as well. We can help by providing a customized pain management plan that safely and effectively relieves discomfort and improves the quality of life.

Dog and Cat Behavior Training

Whether your dog or cat has been unruly since day one or seems to have changed personalities overnight, we can help you resolve their issues. It’s important to keep in mind that your pet isn’t behaving badly to drive you nuts. There is always a cause, be it health-related or due to a stressful home environment.

Examining your pet is imperative, as it can point us to possible underlying health issues. Discussing your pet’s daily habits and behaviors at home can also shed light on the problem. With time, patience, and the appropriate plan, we can help owners with a variety of pet behavioral issues:

  • Aggression
  • Cognitive dysfunction
  • Destructiveness
  • Inappropriate urination/defecation
  • Separation anxiety
  • Thunderstorm anxiety
  • Urine marking/spraying
  • …and more

Dog and Cat Nutritional Counseling

Simply put, a healthy, balanced diet is essential for your pet. Every dog and cat is different and will need a diet that suits all of their specific needs. Your veterinarian will always be willing to speak with you about nutritional concerns and offer recommendations. They should be your primary source of information regarding all things related to diet.

We offer a variety of different diets to address specific health conditions. Furthermore, we want to help you prevent your pet from becoming overweight, which is a common problem for a majority of cats and dogs in the US. With proper counseling on food measurement, exercise and discipline, your pet can stay trim and healthy.
