Dr. Nick Massaro
I was born and raised in Bay View, right across from Humboldt Park, and I am excited to be back in my hometown to serve the community where I grew up. After high school, I joined the Army as an infantryman and completed two tours in Iraq. After leaving the Army, I moved to San Diego for college, where I met my wife and adopted my first rescue dog. That experience led me to begin fostering sick animals with a local rescue, sparking my passion for veterinary medicine.
In 2015, I moved to Oklahoma, where I earned my Associate degree in Veterinary Technology from Tulsa Community College and became a Certified Veterinary Technician, working in a small animal hospital while completing my studies. I returned to Milwaukee in 2018 to work as a veterinary technician in a busy ER and specialty hospital, where I primarily worked in the ICU. The complex cases I encountered there motivated me to continue my education with the goal of becoming a veterinarian.
I was accepted into the University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Veterinary Medicine, where I completed externships and research projects across the country. In May, I graduated with my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and am thrilled to begin my career at St. Francis Animal Hospital.
Outside of work, my wife and I keep busy with our toddler and newborn, along with our three rescue pets, a tortie – Moo, and two mixed breed dogs – Pandora and Fern. My hobbies/interests include history, model building, video games (especially flight simulators), reading, and traveling with my family.
